What can English offer you?
An understanding of the English language is central to how we communicate and is essential for intellectual, social and emotional development.
The study of English should develop a love of literature and learning and be challenging and enjoyable. It develops skills to enable students to experiment with ideas and expression, to become active, independent and lifelong learners, to work with each other and to reflect on their learning.
We also recognise that, for many students, English will be more important as a life skill and as a necessary part of their working lives. We believe in the importance of communication skills for everyone, regardless of their career choice and as a vital part of our everyday personal lives. We therefore aim to equip students with the necessary skills to allow them to lead productive personal and working lives.
The English Faculty is guided by the overwhelming belief that we can always do better. We therefore aim to evaluate and refine and work constantly towards better ways of providing learning opportunities for our students and challenging teaching experiences for our faculty members.
