PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND DIGITAL IMAGING
Content Endorsed Course (Non-ATAR) - 2 Units
Photography is intended for students with an interest in the practical nature of photography, video and and a desire to further these skills.
The course emphasises a hands-on approach, allowing students to explore various photography techniques, including portraiture, object photography, street photography, sports photography, and journalistic photography.
There are no formal exams; however, students will be required to conduct small critical analyses and historical investigations.
Students will learn to use industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects in a dedicated editing room equipped with both MAC and PC computers. This course can lead to further studies at TAFE and Universities.

There are no pre-requisites for this course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Year 11 Topics
• Creating Images- Understand the basics of photography, including exposure, aperture, ISO, and composition.
• Moving Pictures- Explore the principles of cinematic storytelling
• Photoshoots- Studio lighting, focusing on the fashion industry
Year 12 Topics
•
Stop Animation- Understand stop animation techniques, including rotoscoping
•
The Beach- Explore action photography through live events and beach locations.
•
Promotions- Learn promotional strategies and website creation to establish a photography business
•
The Portfolio- Present a final portfolio to industry professionals
HSC examination requirements:
There are no formal examinations for this subject.
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS COURSE
This course invites students to embark on a creative journey through the world of photography, utilising the school’s DSLR cameras, various lenses, and studio lighting facilities.
Through practical activities, including street photography and excursions to Newcastle for filming, students will develop their skills and showcase their work at school events, including serving as key photographers for special occasions like Surfest and school productions and events.
