Furniture Making Pathways is for students who enjoy working with their hands, using tools, and solving practical problems. It suits those considering a career in furniture making, cabinet making, shopfitting, set design, or related fields within the furnishing and manufacturing industries.
PRE-REQUISITES
No prior experience is required. A willingness to work safely, follow instructions, and learn new skills in a practical environment is essential.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students study five core units on:
• Undertaking a basic furniture making project
• Developing a career plan for the industry
• Making measurements and calculations
• Participating in environmentally sustainable work practices
• Demonstrating care and applying safe practices at work
A selection of elective units (teacher determined) comprises the remainder of the course.
You must complete 240 indicative hours of course work and a minimum of 35 hours work placement in an appropriate work environment.
HSC EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
There is no HSC examination for this course. Furniture Making Pathways counts as Board Endorsed unit credit for the HSC but do not contribute towards an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS COURSE
HSC VET courses are competency-based. Students’ complete units of competency to achieve MSF20522 Certificate II in Furniture Making Pathways
For this course you will require your own work boots and safety glasses.
Students will be expected to pay for the materials used in the production of practical projects.
Students may study Industrial Technology Timber and VET Furniture Making Pathways concurrently.
