ENGINEERING STUDIES
Board Developed Course (ATAR) - 2 Units
Both Preliminary and HSC courses offer students knowledge, understanding and skills in aspects of engineering that include communication, engineering mechanics/hydraulics, engineering materials, historical/societal influences, engineering electricity/electronics, and the scope of the profession.
Students study engineering by investigating a range of applications and fields of engineering.
Students undertaking Engineering Studies Stage 6 will have the opportunity to follow a number of pathways. These include tertiary study, vocational education and training, and the world of work.
PRE-REQUISITES
There are no pre requites for Engineering Studies, but strong working knowledge and understanding of mathematics, science and a curiosity in to how engineers solve problems would assist a student in the course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Year 11
Students undertake the study of 4 compulsory modules:
• THREE application modules based on engineering concepts:
- Engineering Fundamentals
- Engineered Products and
- Braking Systems
• ONE focus module relating to the field of Biomedical Engineering.
Year 12
Students undertake the study of 4 compulsory modules:
• TWO application modules relating to the fields of:
- Civil Structures and
- Personal and Public Transport
• TWO focus modules relating to the fields of:
- Aeronautical Engineering and
- Telecommunications Engineering
HSC EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
Section I (20 marks) -
• There will be objective response questions to the value of 20 marks.
Section II (80 marks) -
• Short-answer questions each with multiple parts.
• There will be approximately 25 items in total
