WORK STUDIES GENERAL
Board Endorsed Course (Non-ATAR) - 2 Units
Work Studies is a Content Endorsed Course (CEC), which means it is assessed entirely through school-based assessment and does not count towards the ATAR. The course is intended for students interested in understanding the world of work, career pathways, and the skills required for successful employment. It is ideal for those passionate about exploring career planning, workplace environments, and employability skills. The course caters to students aspiring to pursue careers in business, trades, hospitality, community services, and other vocational pathways.
The course emphasises the development of practical skills, career planning strategies and workplace knowledge, including the ability to create résumés, interpret workplace policies and understand the expectations of employers. Students learn to communicate effectively, develop career plans, and engage with workplace simulations and industry experiences.
PRE-REQUISITES
There are no formal pre-requisites for Work Studies. However, effective communication skills, organisational abilities and a proactive approach to learning are beneficial.

HSC EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
There is no external examination in the Stage 6 Work Studies Content Endorsed Course. When completed as an HSC course, Work Studies will have an unmoderated school assessment mark recorded on the HSC Record of Achievement.
Student achievement is assessed through:
• School-based assessments, including projects, practical applications and written reflections
• Portfolio development, which may include résumés, career plans and evidence of workplace experience
• Industry engagement and community projects
This structure assesses students’ ability to apply practical workplace skills, develop career pathways and engage with community and industry partners.
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS COURSE
Students develop a Career Portfolio, including résumés, job applications, and career planning documents, which supports their transition into further education or employment.
