Human society and its environment (HSIE) is the exploration of the world around us. The world we live in is a social, cultural and physical environment that is ever changing and evolving, from historical times to the present.
Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus HSIE Department offers a vast selection of subjects that bring our world history, geography, people, societies and culture to life.
Our staff’s vision is to open the eyes of our students to the world and its environs and equip them with the learning experiences, knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to participate more effectively and sensitively in our global community.
We take traditional learning and content and integrate them with these skills and strategies to build student capacity for lifelong learning and active citizenship. We examine our world in its physical and human dimensions through a choice of eleven subject studies.
