Working in the metal and engineering industry can include constructing, assembling, installing, modifying, repairing and maintaining machines, instruments and tools; designing machinery, parts, computer hardware and electronic circuits, using 3D graphics and drafting skills; managing clients and staff, overseeing quotes and information, leading projects.
Potential Job Roles: metal production assistant, sheet metal worker, machinist, equipment maintainer & repairer, plant mechanic, mechanical fitter, tool and die maker, mechanical and maintenance engineer.
PRE-REQUISITES
There are no formal pre-requisites for this course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students study three core units on:
• Working safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
• Developing a career plan for the industry
• Undertaking a basic engineering project.
A selection of elective units (teacher determined) comprises the remainder of the course.
HSC EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
There is no HSC examination for this course.
You must complete 240 indicative hours of course work and a minimum of 35 hours work placement.
Manufacturing and Engineering counts as Board Endorsed unit credit for the HSC but does not contribute towards an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS COURSE
Students will be expected to pay for the materials used in the production of practical projects.
HSC VET courses are competency-based. Students’ complete units of competency to achieve Statement of Attainment towards MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways.
For this course you will require your own work boots and safety glasses.
