SPORT COACHING
Content Endorsed Course (Non-ATAR) - 2 Units
Certificate III
This qualification allows students to develop their coaching skills in the specialisation of basketball. It is a mixture of theory and practical classes. Upon completion, students will develop the skills and knowledge to be competent in delivering a basic instruction session for a sport.
There are numerous work placement opportunities offered to students. This includes SurfFest, coaching Primary School students, officiating at a variety of carnivals and also allowing the flexibility of choosing a placement of their choice.
Units of competency include:
- teach fundamental basketball skills
- teach fundamental basketball tactics and game strategy
- interpret and apply the rules of basketball
- provide first aid
- develop and update knowledge of coaching practices
- coach beginner or novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills
- communicate effectively with others in a sport environment
- assist in preparing and conducting sport and recreation sessions
- develop and update sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge.
