INFORMATION AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (SVET)

Board Developed VET Course (ATAR) - 2 units

Certificate III

This course offers introductory training for working in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry. Students develop skills in working with operating system software, diagnostic testing, software packages and the development of web pages. Computer applications include Microsoft Office and Adobe software such as Photoshop.

PRE-REQUISITES

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it is an advantage if students have studied Industrial Technology as an elective course in years 9 and 10.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students study four mandatory focus areas and a range of elective units of competency.

Mandatory focus areas are:

• Innovation

• Protecting data

• Safety

• Working in the industry

Students must complete 240 indicative hours of course work and a minimum of 70 hours work placement. It is permissible for up to 50% of the work placement requirement to be undertaken in a simulated work environment.

HSC EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

There is an optional HSC examination for ATAR purposes which is only available after completion of the 240 hour course.

The exam involves a written examination consisting of multiple-choice, short answers and extended response items.

UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS COURSE

HSC VET courses are competency-based. Students’ complete units of competency to achieve ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology.

Attainment of the Certificate III can provide an ATAR equivalent.
